Great 2016 Albums You May Have Missed – PART 2
LONDON GUITAR ACADEMY Great 2016 Albums You May Have Missed – PART 2
With 2016 coming to a close LGA reviewer, Paul Wood, casts his eyes (and ears) over his albums of 2016. These are albums which are probably not going to appear on the “popular” mainstream music journals’ list of albums of the year, but which we certainly think are worthy of your attention.
Second off the blocks is the debut album “Inner Voices” from the Leeds based garage/psych/powerpop band The See No Evils. Released early in 2016 on vinyl, CD and digital download, “Inner Voices” is a 12 song series of mini-assaults of snarling garage/psych/powerpop rock that comes across like the Barracudas in their garage era prime.
The band comprises:
Ian Burton – vocals
Paul Jackson – guitar
Owen Findlay – bass
David Pace – drums
All songs are set in the classic 2 – 3 minute format with only Ladi Dadi Do stretching out to 3 minutes 50.

Lead singer Ian Burton has the classic 60s garage snarl/whine, Owen Findlay and David Pace lay down the underlying simple but effective bass and drum patterns while guitarist Paul Jackson splatters his garage/psych guitar over the top.
It’s fair to say that any one of the album tracks could be slotted into the classic Lenny Kaye compiled “Nuggets” album and not feel out of place. If your tastes include garage (or the rougher edges of powerpop) then this album’s tailor made for you!
Here’s a link to the Youtube video uploaded by the band for another album track, “Hanging Around” which demonstrates the band’s approach in full flow:
It’s well worth catching the band live if you can. I saw them in September when they were brought to Birmingham for the “Mez Presents” live band nights at the Red Lion in Shirley. Bands booked under the “Mez Presents” (formerly Deep Joy) banner are always well worth attending and this was no exception – the band put on a great show.
